Trex boards are recycled wood fiber and plastic film bonded into a core, wrapped in a polymer shell — the cap. The cap is what changed everything: early uncapped composites stained and grew mildew, but the shell seals the board against moisture, so five months of rain has nothing to work on. No stain cycle, no sealing, no gray-out. A rinse handles moss pollen season.
Two honest caveats: composite runs warmer than wood underfoot in direct summer sun (lighter colors help), and it's surface, not structure — the pressure-treated frame beneath still decides how long the deck lasts, which is why our replacement process starts with the frame.
