Every service below has its own Oak Harbor page — the Navy-era housing stock here, City of Oak Harbor permit notes, and what strait-side salt asks of an install.
This is the work Oak Harbor homes ask of us — from downtown Pioneer Way to Scenic Heights. Flip through and picture your home next.
Get a Free Estimate →Oak Harbor's housing came in waves with the base: '60s–'80s subdivisions built quickly for Navy families, older stock near downtown Pioneer Way, and newer construction filling the edges toward Dugualla Bay. That era math means original builder-grade siding and windows failing together across whole neighborhoods — and everything here lives with marine air that corrodes cheap fasteners years before the boards fail. West-facing walls take wind off the strait; the town's famous jet noise is harmless to siding, but the salt is not.
Permits run through the City of Oak Harbor, and we handle the paperwork start to finish. Access is the Deception Pass bridge from our Anacortes side — a planned drive, not a ferry line.
…and everywhere else inside city limits, plus north Whidbey's county roads.
"We had a great experience with Siding Vault. Michael made himself available to answer any questions we had, and the installation crew led by Marco was terrific. They were so pleasant to have around, they cleaned up the jobsite at the end of every day, and they did a great job. Siding Vault's bid also came in substantially lower than the other bids we obtained. Highly recommend!"
No pressure, no jargon — a clear path from first call to final inspection.
Call (360) 296-9380 or send the form — tell us a little about your home and what's failing.
We measure at your home, open up anything suspicious with your OK, and write a bid specific to your house — minimal boilerplate.
Permits pulled, work scheduled around the weather, and the final inspection passed before we call it finished.
Every bid is measured on site and itemized — these are the factors that actually change the number.
Wall area drives material; height drives scaffold time. A two-story near Scenic Heights prices differently than a Swantown rambler.
Siding replacement →What's behind the old siding is the honest unknown — we scope known rot into the bid and price discovered rot transparently, per repair.
Rot repair →Hardie ColorPlus, primed fiber cement, or engineered wood — we quote options side by side so you see the real difference.
Compare materials →Combining siding and windows saves one full mobilization and gets properly integrated flashing — the cheapest time to do windows is during a re-side.
Window replacement →Oak Harbor built slowly for its first ninety years and then all at once. Irish settlers took claims around the harbor in the 1850s, and a shipload of Dutch colonists arrived in 1894 to farm the north end — but when the town incorporated in 1915, it counted just 401 people, and the oldest surviving stock is a thin scatter of farmhouses and early storefront-era homes near downtown Pioneer Way.
Everything changed on September 21, 1942, when Naval Air Station Whidbey Island was commissioned on the flats north and east of town. The population roughly tripled within six years, and housing went up the only way it could — fast. The Korean War and the Cold War then made the base permanent, and with it a construction economy that ran on transfer cycles: whole subdivisions framed in the same seasons, by the same builders, with the same materials.
The biggest waves came from the 1960s through the 1980s. The Navy converted the old Crescent Harbor seaplane base into Capehart-era family housing in the 1960s, while private builders filled the plateau from Swantown to Fort Nugent and Scenic Heights with ramblers and split-levels wearing the era's builder-grade skins — hardboard and plywood panel siding, aluminum single-pane windows, zinc-plated fasteners. Newer construction has since pushed the edges out toward Dugualla Bay.
That history is why Oak Harbor exteriors fail by the block instead of by the house: identical materials installed in identical years age out on the same schedule, and marine air off the surrounding water corrodes the cheap hardware first. It's also why the fix is predictable — we've usually seen your floor plan three streets over, and the right spec for one home in a Navy-era subdivision is very often the right spec for its neighbors.
