About This Project
This one came to us the honest way: a three-way bid. The owners interviewed two other siding companies, compared the details, and picked ours — and since we're based right here in Anacortes, the crew was never more than a few minutes from the job.
Two decisions shaped the project before a board came off. First, the permit: the City of Anacortes requires one for siding replacement, and we pulled it and paid the fee ourselves, which means a city inspector signed off on the finished work. Second, the schedule: we offer $2,500 off for homeowners willing to run their project in the off-season, October through February. The owners took it — same crew, same standards, smaller invoice — and the job wrapped in January exactly as designed.
The Arch Nobody Else Wanted to Touch
The entry has an arched portico, and the owners wanted the trim above it to curve with it — no chopped segments, no visible seams. Most contractors talk homeowners out of this detail, because doing it right takes equipment and patience: rigid trim doesn't bend.
Ours does. We special-ordered AZEK PVC trim and heat-formed it with our heat-blanket system, shaping full-length pieces to the exact radius of the arch, then set Astro flashing behind it for water protection. One continuous curve, a keystone at the crown, zero seams — and we included the work at no extra cost, because it's the detail you see every single time you walk in the front door.
Monterey Taupe, Properly Hung
The re-side itself is the full Siding Vault sequence: tear-off to sheathing, the known rot below the right-side window cut out and replaced at no charge along with anything else demolition uncovered, then Tyvek HomeWrap, taped and flashed openings, and Monterey Taupe HardiePlank fastened into marked studs with a joint flashing behind every seam and Arctic White HardieTrim on the corners, windows, and doors. No caulk at the plank seams — Hardie's instructions call for flashed joints that drain.
The paint crew closed the gaps the pre-finished material couldn't: eaves and downspouts sprayed to match the siding, the rear roof fascia painted white to match the trim, and the arched wood soffit over the entry caulked and refinished in Arctic White so the whole portico reads as one piece.
A White Deck That Stays White
The upper deck's old wood surface was living on borrowed time and endless maintenance. The owners wanted white composite — which narrows the field fast, because Trex doesn't make a true white. We told them so, along with the honest budget alternatives, and they chose TimberTech's Legacy Collection in Whitewashed Cedar: the mainstream white composite that actually holds up.
The old boards came off, the joists were inspected and taped with butyl membrane, and the new deck went down on hidden fasteners — no screw heads across the field, color-matched plugs on the few perimeter fixings, and no picture frame, exactly as the owner preferred. We wrapped the deck's fascia in wide prefinished HardieTrim to match the house. The scope covered the upper deck only — the lower porch kept its original surface.
