About This Project

The owners of this split-level shopped their re-side properly — several bids, detailed comparisons — and told us afterward in their review that ours was "the best quote and the most detailed information about our project." They're self-described detail people who asked questions at every step, which suits us fine: the answers are the fun part.

The consult set the tone. Michael walked the exterior with a thermal gun to find hidden moisture, and the news was good — only a few small areas of concern, all covered by our free rot repair. From there the plan came together: the whole home, chimney included, in Iron Gray HardiePlank with Arctic White HardieTrim, and every window in the house replaced while the walls were open.

Twelve Windows, One Open Wall

A re-side is the best possible time to replace windows, because the wall is already stripped to its weather barrier — every new unit gets the full flashing sequence with nothing hidden. All twelve openings got Milgard V300 Trinsic vinyl windows in white: flex-wrapped sills, taped nailing fins, z-flashed HardieTrim surrounds. The five street-facing windows carry colonial grids to keep the home's original character, and the argon-filled Low-E glass quietly upgrades every room behind them.

The details around the windows got equal attention. The bay-window wing wears a Hardie panel skirt below its lap siding. The eaves — previously a light green that would have argued with the new palette — were sprayed to match the siding, the rotting fascia boards were replaced and every fascia painted Arctic White, and the cantilevered bump-outs were wrapped and trimmed so the whole massing reads clean from the street.

The Small Things That Stay Fixed

Every project carries a list of little repairs nobody budgets for, and this one collected its share: the inner garage-door trim had rotted, so we replaced it with primed spruce and painted it to match — then added garage-door weatherstripping, because the door had never had any. Every vent on the house was swapped for white pre-finished metal. And when the crew left, the owners kept a small maintenance kit from us: touch-up paint in both colors and spare color-matched caulking, with our advice to let the first two seasons of expansion and contraction pass before using it.

Their review names names — Oscar "went above and beyond" solving pre-existing surprises, and Michael kept the drawings, photos, and options flowing "both before and during the project." That's the version of this job we'd tell too, so we'll let their words close it: "The new siding and windows turned out great!"

"Siding Vault was the best company for our residing project. After looking into several options, they had the best quote and the most detailed information about our project. Oscar went above and beyond! He helped us solve any preexisting issues that we discovered when working on our house. He was always enthusiastic and made sure we were satisfied at all times. Michael was great at communication and coming up with the best designs. He really helped us understand the process. He also provided us in person consultations, as well as many photos/examples through email, both before and during the project. We had tons of questions and they both were very patient and happy to brainstorm with us. The crew was flexible and kind and showed respect for our home and space. We are very detail oriented and asked them a ton of questions throughout the project. They always helped us really understand all of our options. The new siding and windows turned out great!"
